Torano 50 year anniversary

DSC00129

Full Body Cigar with a dark oily wrapper. Good pre-light draw.

DSC00130

Wrapper is smooth, nice tight feel, medium veins notable, slightly toothy.
Initial light gives off a woody flavor, spicey throught the nose with some hints of coffee and earth on the palate.

A notable creaminess to the smoke, which is thick.
A very nice ash holds together well, grey and white.

I am marrying this bugger with an Amber Bock beer. Not bad. complements the stogie.

About a third of the way down, this cigar is rich and complex, nutty, chocolatey, earthy, some spice. Lots of body too.

Half way and still very rich, nutty is the dominant flavor now, less earth less spice.

Burns very even and the draw is exceptional.

Finally lost the ash after the half way mark.

The smoke remains thick and creamy overall, nice notes of nut, and wood. Very minimal spice but it appears to be building again as the last third approaches.

This is an extremley rich full body cigar, with complexity to beat the band. A s the flavor has been continuously evolving and developing.

The bottom third is spicier than the top 2/3rds.

At about 7 bucks, a good buy.

Newman “Maximus” review

OK well this is one I hadnt heard of. Where have I been. J.C. Newman has this baby and I hadn’t tried it until today.

Lets fire it up!,

Construction is nice, even roll, some medium veins but pretty smooth overall. Some moderate sheen to the wrapper. Not too tight, nice cap. Very intricate band on this bugger.DSC00090

Pre-light sniff gives off a nice woodsey aroma, not too overpowering, should be a smooth one. I’m puttin a v-cut on this one with a “Wolf” cutter from Germany, fancey, huh. Pre-light draw is excellent.

Initial flavor upon light up is earthy, maybe even heading towards leathery, a little bitterness but only a little.

puff, puff, puff, sip, sip, sip 15-20 minutes go by and……

Oh by the way this stogie is getting a helping of Metuhsala with water. Look that one up, to figure out what I married it with.

With a third of this cigar behind me, I can’t imagine how I haven’t heard of it or ever tried it until today. This is a real pleasure. Some coffee notes mixed with an ever so slight sweetness have emerged, but seem to be on the rise. When exhaled through the nose, there is no bitterness and a slight cedary aroma is evident. The overall taste left on the palette is one of earth and coffee at this point, but the sweetness is building.

sip, sip, puff, sip, puff…..

1/2 way done and oooooweee!
DSC00102

Im ashamed to not have been smokin these a long time ago. Smooth is the overall consensus. This fine cigar has gone from earthy to, coffee with a minute note of chocolate and nuttyness. Every now and then when outed through the nose there is a slight citrusy sensation, is that a word? I gotta tell ya, this keeps getting better. Time for another photo….

Soon I will have to remove this really intricate band. It’s a doosey. okeedokee, band off, naked stogie. About 2 1/2 inches of this baby left to go before its done, what a shame. I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. More of a traditional cigar flavor if there is such a thing. Not so much sweetness as earth, not too much chocolate or mocha, but definately hints of each.

This cigar has been even burning from the start to end, not a re-light nor a run fix necessary, period, exclamation.

I may have found my special occasion smoke here if I do say so myself. This cigar has a definate flare that says, you want another one soon. Sorry about the finger nail, I was sanding all day on the door to my new walk in humidor, old door lots of paint, no more. Oh, you didnt notice, fuhgetabout it.

Well there’s only about an inch and a half of stogie left and now I’m gettin some spice, oohh soo, nice. Thats what I like to see. This is what I call the sweet spot of the stogie. All the flavors have built up and now have joined together in a grand finally. I love it!
