Canimao Event

closeUp

On Friday October 9, 2009 St Pete Pipe and Cigars hosted a Canimao cigar event. Of course I went to hang out with my friend Ed Nazare, the owner of St Pete Pipe and Cigars. I thought the event turned out really well. There were a lot of people in attendance and the Owner of Canimao cigars, Mel Gonzalez came out bringing with him his Master Roller, to roll and give away some fresh hand rolled Canimao’s.

Of course, Abbey Road Bar as always helps out and folks got their whistles wet while smoking some fine stogies. I myself don’t have to drink to have a good time but, it helps, sooo…. I had a Guiness or two.

Even my wife, Tonna came out and burned one. She commented on how smooth and flavorful her first Canimao was.

Ed raffled of some cigars as well as a real nice custom humidor, provided by Canimao.

All in all it was a good time had by all.  No I didnt win any stogies, or the humidor but I did hang out with some real nice folks and got to talk for a while with Mel Gonzalez , the President of Canimao cigars, as well as his master roller.  To be blunt, I learned a thing or two.

Oliveros, King Havano

The Oliveros brand, King Havano cigar is definately a full bodied cigar, maduro, large ring gauge,  short length, packed with power is what I expect.  pre-light draw after a hole punch was excellent.  The pre-light smell was woodsey.

Once lit this baby gave immediate satisfaction, with an intial coffee note and some spice to the back of the palate and in the nose when released. Although the roll was tight and majorily even under pressure, this stogie had some initial uneven burn.  Not so much that I tended to it immediately, I continued to smoke without interruption.  While watching the burn on this cigar I checked out the wrapper and noted how nicely oily it was, with a wonderful sheen.  Some notable medium veins were evident as well.  The cap was very well placed, appearing to be a triple cap.

About an inch into this bugger and the coffee is joined by some chocolate and wood.  The smoke has a bite when released through the nose, but not so much  as to undo the pleasant flavors on the palate.  Not much has changed with the burn still running and now in need of a fix.

Post run fix, all is well, the chocolate and coffee are still predominant.  Im waiting to see if the smoke smooths out but I have a feeling this is bound to be a pretty consistant cigar, with an upward movement in its strength and boldness.  As I write, the bugger has run again, this is somewhat of a disappointment.   I begin to look closely at the body of this cigar and can now tell that under the wrapper are some larger veins that could be the cause of the issues.

Some cinnamon notes to go with the chocolate have materialized, kinda of  a nice combo, sweetness is the key to evening out this full body cigar.  Except for the uneven burn this is a really smooth, bold , flavor packed cigar, not for the timid. Recommend an evening time light after dinner, with a nice merlot or porter beer.

On a side note, remember to check out the cigar event at St Pete Pipe and Cigars, Canimao Cigar event October 9 in stpete Fl.

And with about half a stogie left , a re-lite is needed, Hmmm.

Re-light and movin on….Some new spice has been evolving, nice bottom half.  If only it would burn evenly this would be a top notch stogie.  Coffee, chocolate, spice sooo nice.  The back end of this cigar is so flavorful its incredible, Im gonna say, who cares about the touch ups smoke it up its great.
