Cain Habano Review 09/26/2009 10:00 A.M.
This is a full body cigar, plenty of strength for even the most daring cigar afficionado. Lets see how this one looks:
When lit this cigar gives off an immediate hint of the power to come, with some notable spicey notes in the smoke when relieved through the nose. About a 1/3 of the way down there is still a good considerable spice but not much change from the initial flavor upon lighting. Some hints of leather are evident.
Well, strength is the predominant attribute with this cigar. The flavor is consistent but as of yet I havent noted anything really notable other than spice. While I wait for some change to occur lets look at the construction of this cigar. Very well rolled with what appears to be least a double cap. It’s roll is semi tight but very consistent from end to end. Some medium veins are notable, but overall very nice construction.
The prelight draw was excellent, lighting was easy with some flame up but no mustache loss. the first 1/3 was very even, the ash was speckled greys and blacks and stayed in tact. and just as I typed that last sentence it dropped off without warning.
2/3 of this stogie finally gave me a hint of coffee and some reduction in the initial spicey flavor, could it be that there will be something to go with all this boldness to smooth things out.
This triple ligero blend is really a butt kicker, the company explains the use of ligero leaves from three different regions in Nicaragua, wow, honestly a bit too powerful.
Hmmm, just got some hint of cinnamon? towards the back of the throat. A bit of carmel mixed in now, but the power is still the overwhelming factor here, add three cups of joe and I’m flyin here, caffeine and nicotine whoo-hooo! Sunday mornin stogie reviews are the best, nothin else to do but “Sit back relax and have a cigar”
Finally Im getting more combinations of carmel, leather and what I would have to describe as cinnamon in this stogie, it’s now shaping up to be pretty awsome, even the ash is behaving. I think the coffee is the wrong choice to go with this stogie however, maybe the fact that its only 10:30 a.m. is also a factor. I’m gonna have to try this baby out in the evening after a good B.B.Q. dinner and a nice Guinness or two.
Between puffs this stogie is finally leaving a pleasant taste on the palette, smooth caramel, with some hints of pepper. The draw has been very good throughout and at the 2/3 approaching the final 1/3 the smoke has taken on a silky feel as opposed two the overpowering feel noted on the first 2/3’s of this powerhouse. It goes without saying that Puffs are spaced out on this stogie, at least by this reviewer, and yet not once has a re-light been necessary. The burn has been absolutely even with not a single run or need for a touch up. In this writers book, those are definate positive points. I really hate to have to mess with a cigar once I’m in to it.
At the back end of this cigar I can honestly say the flavor has improved considerably. Coffee, carmel and pepper are all evident and blending well. After a startling beginning this bugger has turned into a different animal. Just what the doctor ordered. A strong yet flavorful finish. Or is it that im just reeling from the strength. No it’s actually really good!
Approaching the finish line on the cigar and yet another notable change the flavor, heading back to spice and pepper with some earthy, notes.
Let’s sum this up: El Cubanito scale 1-10
Construction: 8
Draw : 9
Flavor: 6
Strength: 10 (over the top)
This is a power house stogie, but takes too long to develop good flavor, if you want strong this is your cigar. But overall , even though I love a strong full bodied cigar, I would rather have more taste and flavorful notes than this cigar offers. Im gonna hold out my final opinion until I hit one of these in the evening after a good dinner and a heavy beer.
